Imperialism in Somalia
Clans clash all across the land as sultans battle amongst themselves, while pirates pillage the seas. Society is poor, and people are starving. These are all attributes that regard Somalia either now or in the past. This country is one of the many that was taken a hold of by imperialism. However, even though imperialism had a hold of Somalia for a while, Somalia managed to retain its cultural, religious, and governmental ideas. The only aspects of Somalia that imperialism changed were some minor urbanization and several trading systems. In the long run, however, imperialism was negative for Somalia, by increasing famine, poverty, and refugees. Somalia was originally ruled by local tribes and clans in an unorganized government, but under imperial rule the nation was subject to governmental structure that lasted only until the Europeans withdrew, leaving the country worse off than before and very few changes in the Somalis daily lifestyle.
Though imperialism affected Somalia, the country continues to be ruled by clans and lacks knowledge on how to operate a government just as it had from before the Europeans appeared. Imperialism did little more for Somalia than increase industry, however that will not help unless the Somalis can govern themselves properly. Along with the various issues that imperialism brought to the Somalian society that must be solved, Somalia must find proper education on how to rule their country, or else their entire society may collapse to complete anarchy.
